Nutritional Tips #1

Let’s talk about hydration….

Has you mouth been feeling dry lately or having headaches more frequently? 9 times out of 10, you are dehydrated. Did you know that our bodies are made up of 45%-60% of water? Hydrating is very important! Drinking enough water each day is crucial for many reasons: to regulate body temperature, keep joints lubricated, prevent infections, deliver nutrients to cells, and keep organs functioning properly. Being well-hydrated also improves sleep quality, cognition, and mood amongst other amazing benefits. In hindsight, you should be drinking half your body weight, this may seem impossible but the more you drink the easier it will become. You will feel overall better once you’re drinking your required water intake.

Signs that you are dehydrated:

  • feeling thirsty and lightheaded.
  • a dry mouth.
  • tiredness.
  • having dark coloured, strong-smelling urine.
  • passing urine less often than usual.

Ways to hydrate:

  1. Water (fancy up your water by infusing fruits)
  2. Fruits and Veggies
  3. Juicing
  4. Coffee and Teas
  5. Set alarms to drink more water
  6. Smoothie

Challenge: 20 more ounces of water than you normally would. Increase eventually to the full amount of half your body weight. Buy a water bottle or make your own for motivation!
